Plain wood handles for use with our range of files which come complete with metal protective ferrules to prevent the handles from splitting. They are made of hardwood.

File handles should always be used with tanged files for the prevention of personal injury, they are supplied with a pre-drilled pilot hole that may be re-drilled to the correct size for the file tang. The tang on files is usually not hardened which allows the traditional method of attaching the wooden handles to be used. Heating the tang and burning it into the handle for 60-70% of its length, once cooled the tang is then driven into the handle producing an interference fit. Should the timber of the handle shrink by not driving the tang up to the shoulder of the file will allow further adjustment. If a number of the same files require handles use one file. A means of identifying the cut and or shape of a file can be achieved by painting the handle as required.
